The World Energy Community Action Network, or WeCAN, will provide a coordinating and knowledge-sharing hub for citizen-based, community solutions to the energy, environmental, and societal challenges we face both as many local communities and as a single global community. This network of empowered, proactive citizens communicates through this online commons to create innovative stepping stones to a clean energy future.

Welcome to WeCAN

Imagine a world of strong communities and empowered individuals living wisely and well. Welcome to WeCAN.

The online commons is a place to share practical, grounded solutions and resources as well as to coordinate efforts. Get on e-mail lists, reach many people quickly, find resources, get advice for a project, set up meetings, find opportunities to get involved, find and read useful documents, discuss your passions and actions, celebrate your successes and campaigns, search other citizens' profiles, learn what is going on among peers or in your community.

WeCAN draws strength from the multiple perspectives, interests, and passions of its members. WeCAN connects individuals, groups, and communities to build the larger movement for a sustainable and just future - our members both empower the whole and are empowered by it. By weaving together the threads of individuals, WeCAN allows us to connect our efforts to collectively build a sustainable future.

WeCAN is locally based and globally connected. We broach global challenges at the local level and incorporate many different actors with shared stakes, shared responsibilities, and unique abilities. We are empowered to understand our own agency and crucial role in the change which is happening all over the globe and in everyone's 'backyards'.

WeCAN has three frames:

  • Regional Groups: groups based on geographic proximity, from as small as a neighborhood to as large as a country.
  • Affinity Groups: groups based on a defining trait, such as 'farmer', 'student', or 'member of a particular congregation'.
  • Working groups: groups based on particular subjects, like 'wind energy' or 'green transportation'.
