Energy Bill House Floor Vote first week in December - what's our plan of action?
Submitted by Christian Balzer on Mon, 11/26/2007 - 09:45.
Sounds like the House floor vote on the Energy Bill is likely to take place Massive coordinated tabling with call-ins and emails/letters to reps? Anything else?

P.S. Here are a few relevant links I found, but I'm sure there's much more stuff out there.... http://itsgettinghotinhere.org/2007/11/09/time-to-step-up-the-power-shift-legislative-shenanigans-underway-on-congressional-energy-bill/ http://capwiz.com/windenergy/issues/alert/?alertid=10532941&queueid=%5Bc... »

Re: Energy Bill House Floor Vote first week in December - what's
I sent this out through email, so here's the WeCAN version:
Power Shifters,
Laura already sent out the update, now here's the action:
We have to prevent the Senate energy bill from being weakened in
committee. If it is and the Senate passes it, it will force
reconciliation with the House bill, which will cause weakening of the
final package. There is a very outside chance that we can muster enough
seats in the Senate to override the veto, but even if they don't, a
final vote will give everyone a clear picture of where their Senators
stand - which is crucial as we move into '08 re-elections.
Our Senators Amy Klobuchar AND Norm Coleman BOTH stood up for the bill.
We should thank them, urge them to prevent weakening of the bill (both
Senators are very influential in this), and encourage their fellow
Senators to pull together in support. Norm Coleman is particularly
significant, since he can have a strong sway on Senate Republicans. He
may not buy in to all the global warming/ coal moratorium stuff, but he
supports renewables.
I was recently alerted that the Capitol Hill switchboard will open all
weekend to receive your calls - and those from thousands of youth
climate leaders nationwide. I am asking you to call your Senators
today, this weekend and next week, thank them for their vote, encourage
them to move their colleagues in favor, and tell them NOT TO WEAKEN THE
ENERGY BILL.
More than that, I'm asking you to get as many students at your schools
as is humanely possible to do the same. Now is the time. We have to
organize like crazy. Here are the numbers:
Norm Coleman: (202) 224-5641
Amy Klobuchar: (202) 224-5653
You can use this sample script: "Hello, I'm ___________, at _________
college - I met with Senator ______ in early November as a part of a
national conference of 6,000 student leaders working for climate
solutions and a better energy future. I'd like to thank Senator _____
for (his/her) vote to put the Energy Bill to a vote. I'm calling to
strongly urge Senator ________ to oppose efforts to weaken the energy
bill and work with (his/her) colleagues to build support for the bill.
Please support and develop renewable energy and end tax subsidies for
fossil fuels. For the good of our economy, our future, and the
environment, we want the House energy bill to pass now!"
Rock on everyone!
Timothy DenHerder-Thomas
- The impossible will take a little while.
