WeCAN be Climate Positive 48-hour follow-up check in

Follow-up is already rocking. At least over here (Macalester), the days are going
crazy. A brief recap of what happened since the end of the Institute
(as far as I know) and then logistical details.

REPORT:
1. Monday afternoon, the Ford Plant Strategy Group met, and after lots
of planning reframed ourselves as ARISE!, the Alliance to
Re-Industrialize for a Sustainable Economy. Lynn and everyone is super
excited, and we have made connections to EJAM (Envi. Justice Advocates
of MN) and a guy in local small business groups. We think this is going
to move into alliances with Green For All.
2. Morgan talked to the Breakthrough folks that evening (Teryn and
Jesse spent all day in SF with Mike and Ted talking about next steps)
and got them psyched about the three (four?) part summer program - I
think they're willing to host the CA part, but Teryn and Jesse should
update.
3. Juliana and Maura went to the U of M on Monday and met with students
and U of M staff - we have the first Big 10 college in the ACUPCC! Not
sure what else...
4. Monday night, the Mac folks plus Morgen met to plan follow-up and
had a great debrief on the anti-opression discussion we had at the Ford
Plant. We did a ton of next steps planning around community efficiency
and everything was really good and I wish you'd been there.
6. Tuesday, Jason and I went to mobilize St. Paul high school students
at the newly forming Youth Environmental Action MN, and met ~100 high
schoolers who are forming a regional climate network. Again, we
reframed the debate as much as possible and laid the groundwork for
more. Also opportunities for hooking Will Steger and GW 101 in with
REAMP and the SSC (Juliana?) to secure a few hundred thousand $ in
funding across the Midwest for student leaders. Plus of course, 100
eager and unskilled high schoolers: SPROG anyone?
7. Last night, I started flying through my Goldman Sachs resources, and
uncovered another potential $130,000 plus world class networking/
finance potential. We're building a strategy to secure Fred Flagstad's
skills.
8. Today, I'm networking my way through email and tonight Kai and I are
attending a meeting with community members in Linden Hills to get
energy efficiency going. Right after that, we're meeting with some
non-conference MacCARES members to review the breakthrough discussion
we had Saturday night and figure out how we share it/ mobilize
Macalester.
9. Thursday, our Co-op group is meeting for the first time with co-op
development experts to start setting up. Next Steering Committee
meeting next week. Jason is travelling to DC for Young People For and
will start trying to network with progressive leaders/ students
nationwide. Van Jones is speaking there - time for another hook-up?
10. Friday, I'm sitting down with our N. Oaks friend so she can start
thinking strategically about how to access its capital base +
efficiency potential. I'll also be talking to my Acumentor for the
first time (professional venture development mentor in Kenya).
11. Sometime this weekend, Jason and maybe Brook are going to go from
YP4 in the evening to the SSC SPROG Directors retreat, where Morgan
will be trying to reframe the prospects of summer trainings around the
strategies of this weekend.
12. I probably have only about 10% of what's happened since everyone
else has a ton to say. Also remember, this is only 48 hours afterwards!

Okay, LOGISTICS:

I am mass-emailing since many of you are not yet on WeCAN and I'm
having trouble inviting people to the group that Morgan created:
Climate Positive Vision. Please join this group ASAP:
http://www.wecannetwork.org/climatepositive

Morgan has already uploaded his recordings: Kai, Jesse, Juliana, and
whoever else has recordings, please upload them (Morgan did a sweet
file saving system so it takes up less space on WeCAN, so you may want
to ask him). We are tagging ALL resources from this conference and
follow up "climate positive" - but also tag it with whatever else is
relevant. Each time you add one of these audio/visual resources, please
add it to the archive I created to make everything more manageable (in
the same format please). If you join "Climate Positive Vision" you
should be able to edit in the content tab. You may want to check out
this archive first.

Jesse and others wanted to read my Framework for Ultimate Climate
Solutions and apparently never recieved it. It's attached to this
email, and is also available on WeCAN tagged 'climate positive' - it's
under the working group about strategy frameworks. I wrote this in
June, editted it cosmetically in August and again jsut now. It
summarizes a lot of the ideas we discussed with some more technical
details. I'm not tied to specific technical details, and did not have
much idea before this summit what I wrote it for (other than to give
myself an understanding of what something really meaningful would look
like). It has inspired a bunch of people, but I have been uncomfortable
sharing widely. I think the technical details are a good topic for
Breakthrough/ other intellectucal development and that this general
framework is meaningful in terms of communicating the bigger picture in
something broad and sweeping for general audiences. I think members who
are not as interested from the technical end will find it interesting
to read through this just to stir up ideas, and those of us who want to
follow up on details can pursue it critically as one of many starting
points in the evolution of what we develop. It is long, but the ideas
incorporated are vast and I think I do a decent job communicating them
succintly (and engagingly). If someone thinks they can dramatuically
summarize it to make it even more accessible, LETS DO IT!

I'm thinking on action items it makes most sense to pursue in small
working groups that communicate with both partners within this group
and a ton more outside as is needed while making sure we post stuff on
WeCAN. We went through these action items on Monday night - there are a
ton of them and they are huge, but they are SO DOABLE.

I'll be posting a list of action items that we came up with on WeCAN
soon, as well as the Ground Rules I used/ we developed for future use.

Let's do this!
