Affinity GroupsWeCAN members participate through affinity groups to create internal changes in the various subcultures to which we belong. These communities are the people with whom we share our congregations, schools, workplaces, businesses, recreation, and other important aspects of our lifestyles. They can be as small as a few fellow entrepreneurs in the same business, or as large as a national labor union or student coalition. Affinity Groups work to engage the values and members of their subculture in the process of building a sustainable future that advances and sustains their constituency. Affinity groups are key in mobilizing their members to engage in solutions, and in defining the role of the subculture in navigating the transition. Since we often participate in society through the venues most immediately relevant to our everyday lives, building a sense of agency, voice, and engagement from each of the affinity groups to which we belong is vital to achieve holistic climate solutions. At a larger scale, our Affinity Groups can connect people who share a common identity to support local and issue-based solutions across society with the ideas, and perspective. We have tried to create an adequate web of our Affinity Groups: try to find one that describes you under the categories defined below or search using tags that describe your constituency. If a group does exist, contact someone in it to request to join. If we don’t have one yet, do some research on ongoing efforts in your own affinity as people like you are probably already engaging in affinity-based climate solutions. If not, find a couple friends who share your background, join WeCAN and then create a Affinity Group.
